So I returned early this morning to that same spot where my camera had sat precariously on my tripod in the creek. What I had shot on my last two visits neither conveyed what I saw in my mind or showed the feeling I got from the landscape. And, I again tread warily along the rocky creek looking for a composition.
This Blue Dragonfly briefly landed on my sleeve, then flew to some reeds behind me so I thought why not. I turned and just with a normal lens I snapped this image. She then took off to my right to glide over the water. And as I followed her, there was the composition I had seen but not found.
All this time I had been looking in the wrong direction.
Now the work begins to stack and merge the various images to bring to life the components.
The clear water in the foreground with rocks and yellowing leaves submerged. The steep bank with reeds and ferns. The tree arching over the creek itself, the two weaved birds’ nests suspended from it reflected in the water. And in the distance the water disappearing over a small weir like an infinity pool with the forest behind.
I only hope now I can bring the image together and the serene feeling of it all.
