He had walked with her. Talking of ideas,of hopes and of dreams. Hoping, thinking that just maybe there might be a chance of happiness. At times it consumed his every moment. Stealing time from his day and making it hard to think clearly about the tasks he should get done.
As he walked her to the station he felt at first a thin shadow of fear. Was he wrong to think they could be together, would be together?
She said something funny and laughed a little. He smiled while the fear grew, hidden inside him.
The train arrived, they kissed and she stepped off the platform, disappearing into the crowded train. She had vanished from his sight. And deep down he felt and knew he had lost her.
And yet it was after all, just another train trip to the hospital he told himself. As the carriages moved away from the station he watched as it disappeared down the tracks. Then he turned and went back to collect his daughter from the child care, where she was playing and singing and dancing with her friends.
